I had to trim the gel insoles too (I wear a 7 1/2). The arch does seem to be a little too close to the heel, which took awhile to adjust. I have a high arch, so I'm not sure if that affects the fit. (The insoles also FIGHT odor, not prevent/stop odor.)

I got these to take care of shin splints and upper ankle pain when running. So far, I have not experienced any pain at all.
I was surprised that I had to trim them, but pleasantly so since at size 15 I usually have to deal with empty space instead of a proper fit.
I do think that the arch may be a little too close to the heel, but that hasn't caused any trouble.
